Renewable Energy: The Long-Awaited Solution

Illustrated by Julianne Park. All rights reserved.

Over time, the effects of nonrenewable energy sources, including fuels like gas, oil, or coal, have taken a toll on our atmosphere in the form of global warming. Climate change activism, one of the most prominent forms of the environmental justice movement, has peaked recently due to our exponential use of these energy sources.

The solution? Renewable energy. It’s not as simple as it looks, though—renewable energy strategies were invented over 2,000 years ago (Associated Press). Implementing these green energy sources gives us another hope in saving our planet, but their lack of popularity and high prices hinder their effectiveness. Recently, there has been a sizable political feud over energy sources for certain countries, additionally regarding the economic aspect of fossil fuels as a determining factor. Funding plays an even more significant role: certain governments are unable to provide the necessary steps to devote to renewable energy. To tackle these problems, innovative companies, such as ReNew Power, have taken matters into their own hands, reducing prices and promoting availability, turning solar and wind power into the top occupants for the cheapest renewable energy sources.

Renewable energy itself is a booming business, an industry with promising opportunities for young companies. Previously in 2022, the industry slackened its growth in the US due to wavering supply chains, inflation, and other disruptions, but it has begun its climb back to stabilizing (Deloitte). In 2023, there is a strong prediction of accelerating growth from the relentless demand for clean energy, increasing value, and prolonging project timelines for this environmental cause. These continuous trends for 2023 carry over into 2024.

In India and Mexico, the dedication to planting renewable energy has skyrocketed. In Mexico, funding for sustainable projects is predicted to exceed over 48 billion dollars in partnership with the US (Renewable Energy World). According to US News, in India, ReNew Power, one of its largest sustainable energy firms, has over 100 clean energy projects dispersed throughout the country, becoming the world’s tenth-largest solar and wind energy company in just a decade.

From my perspective and many others, renewable energy provides a promising future in the fight against global warming. With new, sustainable sources, it’ll be easier for the population to use and continue using energy that does not harm our planet. Moreover, with companies taking charge in this situation, we hope new inventions will continue reversing the damage from previous centuries. The growing industry brings additional opportunities for the expansion of sustainable energy.

Though renewable energy has had its difficulties throughout its timeline, it has just recently become the most secure form of energy. The hardships during 2022 have only strengthened its strategies, setting the stage for the next years to come. The fight against climate change isn’t over, and we must all contribute our roles to prevent our Earth from irreversible damage. Luckily, it seems that renewable energy gives us a chance.
