Prolonged heat waves throughout the western U.S. threaten to break records as temperatures soar well past 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

In California, areas in the Central Valley could reach temperatures up to 117 degrees. Death Valley, known for its extreme heat, could reach temperatures past 130 degrees and break its current temperature record this weekend. Closer to home in the Bay Area, temperatures are often in the high 90s and threaten to reach the three digits.

Phoenix, Arizona is experiencing its all-time worst heat wave, with an average temperature of 103 degrees. Temperatures are expected to reach the high 110s or even the low120s.

For exactly how long these dangerous temperature conditions will continue is unknown. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for many parts of California for the next two weeks.

As this heatwave passes by, there is an increased risk of wildfire dangers and heat-related illnesses, making it vital to stay hydrated and indoors during these extreme conditions.
